Your musical instrument is not a toy. Treating
your instrument with care will make you sound better, play easier,
and have more fun.
Clarinet--Corks
should be greased and your pads should all seal. The bridge key
should properly line up. Always swab your instrument after each
use.
Saxophone--Your
mouthpiece should be cleaned after each use. Instruments should
always be placed properly in their case.
Flute--Cleaning
your instrument after each use is crucial to the lifespan of
your flute. Springs and adjusting screws should be properly serviced.
Trumpet--Valves
should be regularly oiled and put back in their proper position;
don't use to much oil. Clear spit valves completely and on a
regular basis.
Trombone--Your
slide should always have a smooth and continuous motion. A spray
bottle with water works great as well as trombone slide cream.
Always clear your spit valve completely.
Snare Drum--Your
drum head should always be tight. Keep a drum key in your case.
Make sure you have an extra pair of sticks.
Guitar--A guitar
can break very easily and must be treated with care. Always put
your instrument properly with nothing resting on top of the strings.
Please carefully follow the instructions
your teacher has given you regarding instrument care and maintenance.
